The inspiration

A Childhood Fascination

Long before BERING became a brand, there were the stories. Stories from Greenland, where Michael Witt Johansen’s father used to travel for business - stories of endless ice landscapes, shimmering Northern Lights, Arctic wildlife, and encounters with the Inuit people. Years later, during his own journeys through Greenland, Michael experienced the purity and minimalist beauty of the Arctic firsthand. They sparked a fascination that would stay with Michael for life.

The final Spark

A Leap Above the North Pole

In 2008, during Earth Hour, Michael Witt Johansen’s friend and adventurer René Kaerskov completed a parachute jump over the North Pole to raise awareness about climate change and the fragile beauty of the Arctic. The breathtaking images from René’s journey captured the beauty of the Arctic in a truly fascinating way — becoming the final spark behind BERING, which was born two years later in 2010.

Founding of BERING

2010

Inspired by the pure beauty of the Arctic, BERING was founded in 2010 – with the vision of combining minimalist design and high-quality materials in timelessly elegant watches. From the start, BERING set standards with scratch-resistant ceramic watches, uniting elegance and durability.

Partnership with PBI

2012

From 2012 to 2024, BERING supported the organisation Polar Bears International – with special charity watches and a clear goal: protecting the Arctic habitat. 15% of the proceeds from each charity watch were donated directly.

Sun-powered timepieces

2014

Since 2014, we’ve been harnessing the power of renewable energy in our solar watches. Thanks to innovative solar technology, battery changes are no longer necessary – an eco-friendly solution for those who value sustainable functionality.

Twist & Change ring system

2015

With the innovative Twist & Change ring system, BERING revolutionised the jewellery market in 2015 – individually customisable, easy to twist, and endlessly versatile. A true statement of creative style and personal expression.

Launch of Ocean Blue Collection

2020

With the Ocean Blue Collection, BERING made a statement for elegance and responsibility in 2020 – inspired by the deep blue of the ocean and partly crafted from recycled marine plastic. A stylish commitment to protecting our environment.

2022

With the “Ocean Pebble” and “Ocean Ultra Slim” collections, we made a special statement for environmental protection: the straps are made from 100% recyclable materials – combining style with responsibility.

Partnership with Know Your Lemons

2024

Since 2024, we’ve been supporting the Know Your Lemons Foundation, which is dedicated to raising global awareness and promoting early detection of breast cancer. Our pink charity watch serves as a visible symbol of awareness and solidarity.

Stainless Steel

Finely brushed or polished to a high gloss: unblemished stainless steel gives our watches their pure look and makes them very robust. Whether cool and silver-coloured, in an elegant gold-coloured look or in a rose gold-coloured finish - every watch and every piece of jewellery is convincing both aesthetically and with its pleasant wearing sensation. We exclusively process type 316L stainless steel, which is also used in medical technology.
